Feb 14, 10:00 am: Victor is 30 minutes late. Annie and Douglas go to see if he is okay. They find him busily correcting the books. He seems to have no knowledge of the date, and seems completely disinterested in Annie. He does not have a hole in his forearm.
10:15 am Angus goes to The Mail and Telegraph Office to send a runner to Easton, to order a carriage to take Stephanie and Elizabeth to the Hospital.
10:30 am: Annie and Douglas head to Mary’s and ask her to go check out Victor.
10:45 am: Angus returns to Mary’s and tells Elizabeth that a carriage should arrive around 1:30 pm.
11:00 am: The investigators go the The Pawn Shop. Douglas and Nikoli find the creepy jumpy doll and a red-haired doll with mouth sewn shut – the latter beckons them for help. They purchase them both for $1. Elmer finds John Seiler’s chest, which they purchase for $50.
11:15 am: Annie cuts the doll’s mouth open and finds that her tongue has been brutally torn out. After much difficult questioning, the doll reveals that:
- her name is Gretel
- she took something from Frau Trude that cannot be returned
- Frau Trude riding her cat caught her and cursed her
- her brother Hansel is dead
- in order to speak she needs a “child tongue”, but told the investigators “do not harm a child”
11:30 am: The creepy jumpy doll turns its head and blinks. Douglas removes its mask to reveal a grimacing gaunt face of a young boy, with skin so dried it looks like wood. It seems to care for the red-haired doll and, after gesturing for Annie to pick up the doll, it runs out of the room, passing through the door. There are only a couple footprints outside the door, as if the doll had simply vanished after passing through the door.
12 noon: The investigators suit up, buy food, and then head out the South Road to find the unkempt trail that leads West to the caves.
